Andy Lohr’s life was irrevocably changed at 11:30pm Dec. 30, 1983 when he saw the premiere of Van Halen’s “Jump” on Friday Night Videos…

“Mom, I want a guitar. Dad, I want a guitar! Mom, Dad, I want a guitar!! I don’t want to play piano, I want a GUITAR!!! Puhleeeeeeze???”

“FINE! But you have to take lessons.”

He took lessons from the amazing Tim Murray in Charlotte, NC for the next 15 years, churning through Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Rush & Yes, on through to the Allman Brothers, John McLaughlin and beyond.

Thirty-some years down the road, Andy has added mandolin and dobro to his instrument collection, broadened his tastes through bluegrass, folk, country, jazz and funk, and found his singing and songwriting voice.

Past bands include the horn-driven funk of Durham, NC’s Banana, the conceptual folk of San Francisco’s Ray’s Vast Basement, and the varying shades of grass of Portland’s Far West Harlan, Snapdragon and The Millies.

I’ve been been lucky enough to perform at places like Café du Nord, The Tractor, The Coach House, The Laurelthirst, Alberta St. Pub, The White Eagle, Skyline Tavern, The Ruins, The Reser Center for the Arts and Alberta Abbey…as well as dozens of recording sessions, weddings, school fundraisers, birthday parties and campfires throughout the Northwest.
